RE: Approval to create, post & fill light equipment and laborer positions

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Drain Commissioner is asking the Board for Approval to create, post for a light equipment and laborer positions and potential backfill of any vacancy created by the filling of the light equipment position.
BACKGROUND:
In the past our maintenance crew has had up to 10 positions and currently has 6. To make timely repairs to a drain, it is necessary to have more than 2 light equipment operators and 2 laborers. This will help allow us to use the crew and cover more effectively for personal days and vacation time.
DISCUSSION:
A properly staffed maintenance crew can efficiently do necessary maintenance to the storm drains preventing flooding and make the storm drains safer. The 2024-25 budget will be updated to include both the additional light equipment operator and Laborer if approved. The FYE 2024 budget has enough funds available to cover the rest for the rest of the current fiscal year. Both positions are paid for by account 6380-443.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts.
