BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Office of the Genesee County Sheriff requests approval to enter into a Police Service Contract with the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) to provide three (3) certified police officers—specifically one (1) Certified Police Sergeant, one (1) Certified Police Deputy, and one (1) Certified Police Deputy with a K9—to serve as School Resource Officers for the term commencing October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2029. The basic cost of such services is estimated to be, and intended not to exceed, $1,468,502.00 for the initial term, to be paid by GISD.
BACKGROUND:
This contract will provide dedicated law enforcement, emergency preparedness planning, and counseling services to students, teachers, administrators, and parents within the GISD school system. The assigned officers will include a Certified Police Sergeant and two Certified Police Deputies, one of whom serves as a K9 handler with a trained police dog certified annually for explosive detection. GISD will reimburse the County for all actual costs incurred, including salaries, wages, benefits, equipment, vehicle, K9 expenses, and indirect costs.
