BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a request by the Genesee County's Sheriff's Office to eliminate a Deputy Training position and to create, post & fill the position of Training Sergeant.
BACKGROUND:
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is a leader in modern law enforcement evolution. The Sheriff's Office maintains a force of 254 sworn deputies and is committed to providing the county with highly trained and professional officers. To ensure the highest standards of law enforcement, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) has recently increased the mandated training requirements for deputies. As a result, there is now a need to establish the position of a dedicated Training Sergeant.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
Create, post, and fill a Training Sergeant.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The cost to increase this position will be taken from this year's current training budget through the attached budget amendment. The cost to upgrade this position for a full year is $3,502.00. The increase for the rest of this fiscal year is $2,183.
