RE: Approval of a grant award from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, in the amount of $133,000.00, to provide for demolition assessment at the former Genesee County Administration Building

recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a grant award from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, in the amount of $133,000.00, to provide for demolition assessment at the former Genesee County Administration Building
BACKGROUND:
Last year, the Board of Commissioners authorized negotiations between Genesee County and the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) for the purchase of the former Genesee County Administration Building. During those negotiations, the MTA informally led a group of contractors through the building to get a general idea for demolition cost. In the meantime, there has been significant change at the federal level related to funding. MTA has paused their interest in the former Administration Building.
DISCUSSION:
In order to better understand the costs associated with demolition of the former Administration Building, we believe it is in the best interests of the County to hire an outside firm to develop proper demolition specifications that will guide the work of any prospective demolition contractor. These specifications will aid in the bidding of the demolition project. To help realize that goal, staff worked with the CS Mott Foundation to secure a grant that will cover the cost of the bid specification, bid review, and demolition management.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There will be no impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This grant award will have a positive impact on the budget. A budget amendment is attached.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
This grant award will help Facilities determine true cost of demolition in order to secure funding.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There will be no impact on Technology.
