RE: Approval of expedited action for a proposal between Genesee County and Weinstein Electric for Engineering and New Primary Service to Genesee County Jail

recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of expedited action for a proposal between Genesee County and Weinstein Electric for Engineering and New Primary Service to Genesee County Jail
BACKGROUND:
The existing primary electric feed to the Jail is from the old administration electrical vault. To move forward with the demolition of the old administration building, the Jail must have the electrical service refeed from the new location on the Jail property. Consumer’s Energy has completed the initial phase 1 of this project and is working with Weinstein Electric.
DISCUSSION:
Facilities and Operations is recommending Option #1 for new Primary Cable to the Jail utilizing what is thought to be a spare available conduit. Because of the current age of the existing cable nearing the end of the design life expectancy. There is a 10-week lead time for the Primary switch. Once power has been switched over, we can cut off all utility services to the old building and Consumer’s Energy can decommission the electrical vault and total demolition can be completed.
